A web directory is a website that categorizes websites. Some directories will even allow individual pages to be categorized in the directory. Two very popular directories are DMOZ and Yahoo. One advantage to looking for information in a directory is that you can find what you need by category. If you are looking for a website designer you would likely look under “Internet” and then “Web Development” or something of that nature. Web directories are organized much like what you see in your telephone directory book
Web directories try to list as many relevant websites as they can. For this reason this is often a good place for you to submit your website to build back links.
