Glossary Entry

Term:  Web Conference     Acronym: -
Definition: Web conferencing uses Internet technology to allow businesses to hold group meetings. High-speed Internet connections allow companies to have real time video and audio discussions with clients located around the world.

The presenter of a web conference uses a computer and a small camera, often called a webcam, to deliver a presentation to a group of participants. Participants can often respond back to the presenter. Web conferences are often enhanced by other web technologies like Voice Over IP to deliver the sound.

The price of this technology has greatly decreased over the last few years. It’s common now for webmasters to see advertisements of webcasts, where software companies offer training on programming and Internet products. One well-known company using web conferencing is Microsoft with their MSDN Events.
