Glossary Entry

Term:  Jagger Update     Acronym: -
Definition: Jagger is the nickname of a three-part update on the algorithm Google uses to create search results. The first of the three updates was on Oct 18th, 2005. By November 4, 2005, the third of the three updates started to be visible in the Google search results.

The Jagger update caused a lot of concern for many website owners as their position in the SERPS started to slip, in some cases dramatically, due to the changes in what Google considers to be spam. In the past other algorithm updates have been applied, such as “Florida” and “Bourbon”. Each update was applied in Google’s effort to provide the most useful results in their searches.

Unfortunately, at times even legitimate websites get penalized by some of the changes, forcing them to make large changes in their website to regain their position in the Google SERPS.
