Term:
Affiliate Programs
Acronym:
-
Definition:
An affiliate program is a means for companies selling a product or service to use other websites to advertise their business. Webmasters place a banner or link on their site to the selling companies site and receive a fee or a commission of the sales for each client referred to the site. The most common types of affiliate programs pay the webmaster either when a visitor clicks on the link to the referred site (PPC or pay per click) or when the visitor buys a product or service after clicking on the link. Most affiliate programs require that a minimum payout be accrued before the company pays the affiliate.
When choosing an affiliate program it’s best to carefully investigate several companies first. There are many forums where other webmasters will talk about their experiences with companies offering these programs. From them you can find out how well the program performs and if the company pays promptly.
